  • A Thought For Today

    19 October, 2014

“I believe in God”. Well, that’s good. But what exactly are you saying to me in that statement? What’s that? You’re not sure why I would ask that question? I ask it because you may not mean anything more than you believe in the existence of God – whatever the word “God” means to you.

There was a time when I would have been satisfied with your statement. But not anymore. You see, there’s more to faith than just believing. So, while I care about your claim, what I want to know is do you trust this God in whom you believe?

Believing involves little more than an acknowledgement of or agreement with some propositional truth without it necessarily having an impact on our lives and lifestyles.

If you were to say to me, “I trust in God”, I would expect that you could show me some tangible evidence of that claim. Imagine that you have just told me that you trust in God and I have asked you if you would show me the proof of that trust.

What would you point to in your life that demonstrated the authenticity of your claim?
