ENOCH: THE WALK OF FAITH
Genesis 5/18-24, Hebrews 11/4,
INTRODUCTION;
Our writer is making his appeal to his readers by refering them to many OT characters whose lives are presented as examples of faith in action….a faith that remains strong in the face of opposition. Our task in this session is to work out how Enoch’s life is such an example.
[1] WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ENOCH?
The Genesis account simply says (a) he became the father of Methuselah at age 65, (b) he had other sons and daughters (c) he lived 365 years, “walking in close fellowship with God” – mentioned twice in 2 verses. Hebrews tells us Enoch was “ taken up” i.e. he didn’t die. (This was said of one other OT character 2 Kings 1/11,12). Then finallythe text says “he pleased God” (v.5)
