  • A Thought For Today

    1 January, 2015

“Happy New Year!”  This greeting just rolls of our tongue so easily – especially today, of course - January 1st, 2015. But that greeting to us feels almost out of place, even insensitive.

The reason is the journey that Bev and I are undertaking described in Psalm 23 as “walk through the valley of the shadow of death”. Short of an amazing miracle, Bev will die this year.

There, I’ve said it!! Out loud so that everyone can hear it.  I’ve used the “D” word.

This has been a long and arduous journey already and it is not over yet.  We like that saying, “The best is yet to come”. Well, short of that amazing miracle, for us “the worst is yet to come”.

“Happy New Year!!” How should we respond when we are greeted that way today.

I think we should give the greeter the benefit of the doubt, assume they really meant what they were saying and reciprocate warmly and genuinely.
