  • FAREWELL TO " A MOMENT WITH MARK"

    5 April, 2013

    .This is the final reflection on our journey through Mark's Gospel. Late last year I began this daily devotional designed to provoke our hearts and minds with a succinct comment, observation or question from one or two verses from the gospel. I had no idea at that stage that it would grow into a collection of 130 'episodes' that would take us through to Easter 2013.

    I have been very encouraged by those who have commented on the value of these brief reflections. Some have been with me from the start while others have joined along the way. But now I must farewell Mark and, very unexpectedly, take up another challenge.

    Just over one week ago my wife of 48 years, Beverley, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease. Those who know about this disease will realise that there is no cure or treatment. The prognosis is anything but encouraging. The Neurologist has given Bev "up to three years". Add to this scenario my own condition with Parkinson's Disease and we make quite a couple!!

    The Challenge:

    [1]  To walk together into the remainder of God's future for us;

    [2] To  invite you to walk with us in the sense that we want to journal our journey and invite you to read our writings in the hope that together we may better understand the mysterious and sovereign ways of our God.

    I don't know how this will work or, for that matter, if it will work. We are beginning this "JOURNEY THROUGH THE VALLEY" and we want to share with you anything that we are learning on this journey that, one day, we must all take. The "Valley" is, of course, the Valley of the Shadow of Death (Psalm 23)

    I don't expect that, like "A Moment with Mark', these reflections will be daily. But I do expect that they will be frequent. We will be as honest and direct as possible. I want our sharing with you and others to be marked by integrity and authenticity.

    Bev and I would appreciate your own reflections on our journal entries. No doubt there is much we can learn from your own journey. Just make use of the "Contact" button on the Home Page.

    Look for any heading that says: JOURNEY THROUGH THE VALLEY

    I plan to further develop the other dimensions on Barnabas - e.g. "Church Leaders"  "Life's Journey"  "Ministry Resources".
