My Darling,
Well, still the cards come and every one of them expressing enormous gratitude and appreciation for all that you have meant to them..
Two cards came today. One from W & C which said the following;
You and Bev hold a special place in our hearts….you would probably agree that Bev was the perfect foil in supporting you with her wonderful nurturing spirit not just in the family you built together but in the communities you ministered to ……. I know that she was a gift to many a young mother, taking an interest in them and their offspring, seemingly at just the right time and in just the right way……And in the eyes of those who knew and loved her, a woman of dignity and grace”.
Isn’t that great?! The other card from R and M. was equally affirming not just about who you are in their eyes but what you have contributed into their lives.
Bev was a real friend, encourager, spiritual Mum and a steadfast presence in our lives. We are so thankful to both of you that you welcomed us into your lives and treated us as family. We are so grateful for your wisdom and discernment and your loving advice through the years. We will continue to love Bev and her input to us.
What well deserved affirmation that is for you, my love.
As precious as those words are for us, it just occurred to me (I must be slowing down!!) that when you heard “Well done, good and faithful servant”, no praise could match that affirmation!
I remember you telling our church family about the old hymn that, in the imagery of the pilgrim, talks about each evening you would pitch your moving tent a day’s march nearer home. And then you said, “I’m going home!” As I replayed that interview recently and I came to that part, I was undone and the tears flowed freely.
Yes, you were going home and now you’re there. I could almost envy you, sweetheart. But then I think of what “each day’s march” cost you in those last couple of months especially. What an amazing woman you are. Your inspirational life remains as part of your legacy to us.
Oh, so many questions now that you’re there. Is heaven anything like we imagine from what we read in the Bible? From what the Pastor tells us from the pulpit?
There is much more that I want to share with you in the days to come but that can wait.
But until then,
You remain the Love of my life
Mike
