    Hi Sweetheart,

    Today is a special anniversary.

Fifty Five years ago today something happened that was to change our lives forever. You probably know already but, just in case, let me give you a few hints.

It was a Saturday.  We were out with our youth group. We were both “unattached”. The event we were attending was known as GFM.

(Well, if you don’t know by now this letter has fallen into wrong hands!)

Remember? Of course you do!!  As we walked up the stairs at Gospel Film Ministry, you said, “Can you see any reason why the Lord would not want us to go together?” (as in boyfriend and girlfriend).

Initially I was stunned by the question.  It’s wasn’t that it was a brand new idea. Heaven knows (literally!) that I had been hinting at that possibility for some weeks before that night but I felt that you weren’t interested which is probably more of a commentary on my “hinting skills” than on your ability to recognize the signs.

So, having all but given up on the idea of becoming Beverley Hall’s boyfriend, you suddenly, “popped the question”!  And so began a relationship that involved courtship, marriage and a love that is stronger now than ever.

    Fifty Five years ago today.

The other evening I found myself staring at our family photo from last Christmas and realising that was to be the last time we would be together as a family.  Then I thought, “Why not place a copy of that photo with the ashes when we bury them next weekend?” So, at the risk of being labelled  “weird”, that’s what we will do. It won’t mean anything to you but it will be a symbolic gesture that will remind us that, in Jesus, we are all still one despite your physical absence. But we look forward to that time when we will forever be with the Lord

    But Until Then,

You remain the love of my life

    Mike
