My darling,
Every day in so many ways I am thinking about you. No big surprize in that statement. My guess would be that such a reality will be true for a long time yet!!
Each day there are so many “memory triggers” that ensure that I have no way to avoid or escape their influence - not that I am trying very hard to do!
For example, each weekday I go to the local village mail boxes and there on our mail box is written MIKE & BEV ROBINSON. No, I have no plans to change that by removing your name. On the contrary, I still consider us to be a couple. Of course, much of the mail is addressed to both of us.
By way of another example, our Church is currently involved in producing a new Church Directory and members have been asked to check their details on a master sheet. As I stood before the sheet, pen in hand, I realised I was about to cross your name off that list. That I did NOT want to do. It was just another one of those daily reminders of the permanence of your absence.
I spoke to our Church Secretary and asked if we could add another category to our directory. That instead of Bev’s name being removed, it be retained with mine but in a set of brackets words like (with Jesus) or (at rest with Jesus). Then again, it could be as simple as (Deceased).
Because we believe that, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, we know that you are now in His Presence…..Oh, sweetheart, you’ve got no idea how that comment thrills, excites, humbles me to be able to make that claim! What a reward!! (Listen to me, will you? You have got more idea than will ever have short of the Lord’s Return!)
I’ve wondered so many times over the years about this doctrine of the Second Coming and its sequence of events etc. How much of what we believe is clear Biblical teaching, how much is what we want it to be? In other words, how much is little more than wishful thinking? But this week I was reminded of the Apostle John’s conviction when he wrote
Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 1 John 3:2 (NLT
It’s amazing how much more fascinating the “things above” have become since you went there!
I will write again soon,
But Until Then….
You remain the love of my life
Mike
