Hi Sweetheart,
I’ve been wandering through your book, “The Book of Days”. I’ve mentioned a few things previously out of what you wrote. In some ways I feel like an intruder invading the privacy and the confidentiality of another.
Yet the insights that you have written in that journal deserve to be read to a wider audience. Comments and observations that might be deemed too personal have been omitted from these reflections. It’s interesting the number of people who choose not to read “Letters to Bev” because it’s too personal.
Well, my answer to that is to draw a distinction between personal and intimate and, if they are OK with my explanation, I would encourage them to enrich their lives by reading these extracts that come with the authority and honesty of your experience. Another quote was this:
‘….Jonathan who helped David find his strength in God”. We are finding the same strength. But then I will go ‘Home’ and Mike will remain in that strength to continue to bless others“
It doesn’t take a rare brand of brilliance to see how this approach would affirm and bless the recipient.
What does stand out is the positive emphasis. Being afflicted with MND gave you every reason to be negative yet the opposite is true. With some rare exceptions, just about everywhere one looks in your journal there is this positive outlook.
I recall on more than one occasion that you expressed the conviction that our attitude is something we choose, not something that is arbitrarily foisted on us as though it was destined and we had absolutely no say in the matter. You had obviously chosen to have a positive attitude despite the circumstances that would push most people into the pit of negativity. I just remembered another quote from your diary: “The key is Christ in you, not you in another set of circumstances”.
In Hebrews it says of Abel, “……..Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.” I think of that verse when I see the continuing impact of your life, even though you have died”. Your voice is being heard more in death than it was in life. Part of the reason for that is because you were such a self-effacing person in the public arena.
You are a remarkable woman of faith and your life continues to be inspirational to many people.
