  • Our Journey Through The Valley (13)

    20 May, 2013

BEV:   A friend of ours sent me a copy of a book by Rev, David Watson, called "Fear No Evil". David wrote of his journey with liver cancer which was eventually the cause of his death. I was particularly drawn to a letter sent by David's doctor and one section of that letter:

"It is easier to prepare for healing than for parting. But to fail to prepare for parting is to leave a bitter legacy for those we love. David, if it should be that your disease progresses, make time for Anne, Fiona and Guy, to say thank you, to ask forgiveness and to say goodbye".

MIKE:  I think this struck a chord with both of us because late last year we both talked about our hopes and requests when our time came. A basic question that we asked each other was how we want to die if the choice were ours. We both said that we wanted time to say goodbye to our children and to thank each other for the privilege we had of being partners on life's journey. The good doctor gave David Watson the same counsel.

BEV:  And then, on the 26th March this year I was told how I will most likely die (apart from a miracle or some other kind of intervention) and it allows the very time I said I needed to say farewell.
