  • Our Journey Through The Valley (23)

    17 June, 2013

MIKE:  In the 13 years that I have had Parkinson's Disease, I have chosen not to join a Support Group. The idea of meeting with people who also have PD, many of whom are further down the track  so far as the manifestation of symptoms is concerned....well, I'd rather not! I operate on a "need-to-know" basis. If I do not need to know, then I pull back until such time as I do need to know!

Last week Bev and I attended a support group for those with Motor Neurone Disease. To sit across the table from a man who was diagnosed with MND last November and to see how rapidly he has deteriorated, that was very confronting. Here is Bev's response:

BEV:  Frankly, the experience was nowhere near as confronting or intimidating as I had thought it would be. We had to leave for another commitment when the meeting was officially over so we missed what we suspected followed i.e. the informal interaction among the sufferers of MND. Somewhat to my surprise I came away thinking that I would certainly go again. Meantime, the sense of God's presence remains undiminished every day.
