  • Our Journey Through The Valley (24)

    19 June, 2013

Over this last week our own journey has taken a dramatic shift of emphasis. One of our family relatives who had been increasingly unwell for some weeks was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia.  He and I (Mike) had developed a bond that welcomed me into his heart and mind as he confronted the unexpected. I think he realised that Bev was facing the same prospect - a disease that had no cure and no treatment and a track record of 100%.

Suddenly heaven became a subject of importance to him and he requested time with me to discuss these issues. As you would expect (if you have been walking with us on our journey through the valley) our hearts and minds have been quite sensitised to the reality of life beyond the grave in God's heaven.

So it was that on Friday of last week that I sat with my fellow-brother-in-law and I explained to him the two ways to get to heaven (of which only one works) and the experience of the thief on the cross who reached out to the mercy and grace of God in the words, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom".

Colin prayed the same words. The peace that flowed over, through and around him he described as "extraordinary" and "indescribable".

The next day his prayer was answered. At 10.30pm on Saturday night, the King opened the doors of His Kingdom and received Colin into His presence.
