Our Journey Through The Valley (29)
6 July, 2013
Sunday July 14th is a day to which we are looking forward with keen anticipation because the morning service at our Church will include a time when Bev will be anointed with oil as per James 5/16. Our Pastor is planning to have a "fire side chat" with Bev and I as part of the teaching emphasis that day. The Elders will lay their hands on us and pray for us.
I can hear someone say, "I guess they will pray for your healing?" Well, yes and no. The primary purpose for this anointing is to declare the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ over Bev's body and the disease that has taken up residence in her physical body. If that declaration results in the healing and restoration of Bev's body we will be thrilled and grateful beyond what words could ever convey.
But the primary purpose of this anointing service is much greater than physical healing. When Jesus stood before Pontius Pilate in the place of ultimate vulnerability, Pilate said to Him, "Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or to crucify you?" Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above". (John 19:10-11 NLT)
On Sunday, July 14th, we are making the same declaration. This disease has no power over Bev unless it is given to it from above. We are making this declaration on the basis of Jesus' claim , "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth". (Matt 28:18 NLT). If that is true then He is Lord over any and every circumstance. This truth is summed up in a song we used to sing as children, If Jesus is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.
In declaring that Jesus is Lord of the disease that is at work in Bev's body, we welcome the King to bring His Kingdom rule, will and sovereignty to its full manifestation - whatever that may be.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Ps 23:5-6 NIV)
