Our Journey Through The Valley (37)
15 August, 2013
I'm sitting here looking at a brand new battery-powered "Scooter" that has been provided for Bev free of charge. Another wonderful provision for her. The wheelchair I mentioned last time is also free of charge. We are so grateful for every expression of God's goodness - many of them are conveyed to us through people who don't realise that they are the Lord's agents being used to care for us.
I do have one concern about the wheelchair and the scooter - they are both the same colour - RED!! Why am I worried about that? Everyone knows that red cars go faster! I think we ought to get Bev a helmet and a pair of goggles as well as a long orange stick with a flag on top. How embarrassing for us if she gets caught in one of our radar traps here in the Village. (I'm kidding!!)
I continue to marvel at Bev's patient endurance and gracious attitude as the days pass. I sense a growing richness in her spirit that she welcomes every day. She is choosing to walk this way; just like Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet.
One the one hand, she struggles to move around our unit. Everything involves a great deal of effort. There are no longer any simple tasks. Yet there is that within her that doesn't want to capitulate to the disease and she won't ask for help if there is any way that she can do such-and-such. Almost every time I watch Bev I recall that verse that has been with us since DAY ONE of this journey.
Though the outer person is wasting away, the inner person is being renewed day by day (2 Cor.4/16)
I am watching the truth of Paul's words on display every day in the life of my wife. How privileged I am!
