Our Journey Through The Valley (53)

~~Sometimes life seems a little more than a bit unfair!! We compare one person's experience with that of another and, according to our set of values, "Person A" is advantaged in a way that "Person B" is not....and that's not fair!
I (Mike) found myself thinking this way (again!) recently. Bev and I attended a two-part seminar over the last two Mondays. This very helpful exercise was arranged by the Motor Neurone Disease Association. What a terrific group of people they are! Yet, one of the realities that we had to face again is that there is no known cause for MND and, to make the point even more in our face, there is no medicine that has any significant effect on the disease.
In between those two Mondays we also attended a clinic for those with Parkinson's Disease. As with MND, there is no known cause for PD but there is a range of medications available that greatly assist in day-to-day living.
So when are we going to get to the unfair part, I hear you say.
As I sat with the Neurologist looking at various treatment options, I became aware that Bev was listening to this conversation. She doesn't have any medical options. That's not fair.
But, typical of her attitude, she has said numerous times that there is a strange kind of liberty in not having to make decisions about this treatment or that medication. (e.g. chemo, surgery, radiation etc). We have been made aware of friends who are wrestling with decisions about such options. Bev finds freedom in her situation.
Among other things, Bev's attitude rebukes my theology of unfairness!
