  • Our Journey Through The Valley (63)

    29 December, 2013

There was a time back about mid-year when, such was the rapid pace of Bev's deteriorating condition due to Motor Neurone Disease, I really felt that, come Christmas, her seat would be vacant as we sat around the family table to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Her absence would be due to either severe physical limitations or (more likely) because she had departed to be with her Lord.

The truth turned out to be much more positive than what I was envisaging.  We had a great Christmas with our extended family. There was much laughter and joy as we shared in all the traditional aspects of a "family time".

Yet the celebration was tinged by the thought in the background that "we most likely will not have another Christmas together".

One of our daughters-in-law suggested and led time of reflection gathered under the general theme, "The best moment of the fast-closing 2013". Again, a lot of laughter as well as increasing sense of what God has done for us.
My response was something like this:  "Given that I was relatively sure that Bev would not be here with us today, my best moment for 2013 is right about now - sitting alongside her in the presence of my family".

So, the journey through the valley continues.
