  • Our Journey Through The Valley (7)

    30 April, 2013

How one couple are facing life and death in the presence of Motor Neurone Disease.

I think there is something wrong with the person who never raises the "WHY?" question as they pass through deep waters and tough times. It seems to me that if Jesus asked that question in the very midst of indescribable suffering (My God! My God! Why....?), then it is OK for us to ask that same question when we experience suffering at any level.

This morning I had a brief visit from one of the men from our Church. He called in to share what He believes to be a word from the Lord. Listening to him I had a sense that he was right; it is a word from the Lord.

In brief I understood it this way. If God has allowed this season of suffering in our lives, then there is a purpose which involves a call that is to be embraced by us so that the purpose can be worked through to the glory of God. Satan may be trying to destroy our faith by rendering us weak through sickness (and God may allow that to a degree) but, in so doing, the enemy has provided God with an avenue to demonstrate His power and glory and to inspire others. The New Living translation of 2 Corinthians 12/9 reads thus:

"My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness. So now I am glad to boast about my weakness so that the power of Christ can work through me."

My friend went on to say that if we could recognise a call from God in our weakness, we may also see that God has been preparing us for some years for such a time and purpose as this.
