Our Journey Through The Valley (75)
28 February, 2014
Upon further reflection, something else has come into focus for us. It seems that Jesus was confident that the purpose of His intercession for Peter (i.e. that his faith doesn't fail) was accomplished and that Peter would survive the "sifting" that was about to take place.
So, when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers".
Not "IF" but "when". Somehow Jesus knew that, despite the pressure that would be put on Peter, Peter would come through and, in doing so, he would be in a position to strengthen the other disciples.
Suffering makes some people better and other people bitter. Such bitterness emerges as faith fails. God, we believe, has not lived up to our expectations and that is more than we can accept.
It is during those times and seasons of testing that we need a "Peter" to come alongside; one who can understand our pain because he/she "has been there, done that"!
If this really is a "word from the Lord" for Bev and I as we track closer to the valley of the shadow of death, then just maybe through our experience others will be strengthened in their faith.
