Our Journey Through The Valley (84)
26 April, 2014
It is now 12 months since Bev was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. At that time the Neurologist said that life expectancy with MND was 1-3 years from diagnosis. He then commented that if Bev was around 3 years from that day, he would be glad if she rang and told him he was wrong! That's the kind of call he loves to get. It's certainly the kind of call we would love to make!!
How does one review a 12 month period in the context of the diagnosis, the anticipated time frame and the end result?
Physically there is no doubt that the disease has progressed. Bev is virtually bound to her motorized chair except each night when she is assisted into her bed. We have often said that we can see God's fingerprints all over our current circumstances. Sometimes I wish we could see His whole hand moving in healing.
Sometimes the progress of the disease seems more tangible than the promises of God. I guess that's where faith has to come into the picture. It seems that's what Paul was saying when he wrote,
"Though our bodies are dying our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last for ever. So we don't look at the troubles that we can see now; rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone. But the things we cannot see will last forever".
