  • Today's "Moment with Mark" (120)

    25 March, 2013

But at this point the leading priests stirred up the mob to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.  (Mark 15:6)

Manipulation and control. And there are few practitioners as skilled at this dark craft as those religious leaders who have presumed to use and abuse people for their own ends. The text today is but one of many that could be cited to support the above statement.

Of course, our contemporary religious world is replete with examples of the same shameful practice. i.e. leaders who see people only as resources to be manipulated and controlled in such a way that they comply with the leader's agenda of gaining his/her goals.

It seems that Pilate was about to release one prisoner and it could possibly have been Jesus. That's the last outcome that these religious leaders wanted. They had worked hard to get their "death agenda" for Jesus to this point. So they exploited their position as acknowledged leaders in their community and manipulated the crowd to achieve the end that they wanted.

Such tactics are rife today. They are called RELIGION.
