  • Today's "Moment With Mark" - (19) - Indispensible?

    1 December, 2012

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.  Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!" (Mark 1:35-37)

I can read the words but I can't hear the inflection or tone in what the disciples were actually saying. Was this a rebuke from the disciples to Jesus? Were they saying, "You don't have time to pray. There's ministry to be done. Everyone is looking for you!  You are indispensible"

Maybe they were saying, "This is great! Everyone is looking for you! It's about time you were recognised. Your time has come. And it won't do our reputation any harm either!"

Whatever was in their minds we will never know. Whatever else it was, it was an attempt to get Jesus away from praying. Yet that's where He found what He needed to fulfil the Will of the Father.
