  • Today's "Moment with Mark" (43) - Power over Disease

    3 January, 2013

She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched the fringe of his robe.  For she thought to herself, "If I can just touch his clothing, I will be healed." (Mark 5:27-28 NLT)

The aspect that grabs my attention is in the opening words, "She had heard about Jesus..."  I have an immediate question, "Who told her about Jesus?" Was it the leper? (Mark 1/40)? Was it Legion? (Mark 5/18-20). We will never know whose testimony it was but God bless those who unashamedly tell everyone, everywhere about Jesus. We never know who is listening to our testimony and how that may impact their lives and lead them "to reach out and clutch the fringe of His robe".

Associated with that event is the question Jesus asked, "Who touched my clothes?"  Like the disciples, I reacted the same way as they did - poorly!. It seemed like an unreasonable expectation that the disciples should know the answer.

His disciples said to him, "All this crowd is pressing around you. How can you ask, 'Who touched me?' "  (Mark 5:30-31 NLT)

There were a lot of people in the crowd that day. Lots of people touched Him. But, in the sense of faith and effectiveness, only one person really touched Him. That's the touch Jesus felt. It was that touch that released power and energy for healing.

I believe we should ask the Lord to identify who among those people who crowd our everyday life are desparately seeking to touch and be touched by the Lord.(although they may not put it that way).
