• Today's "Moment with Mark" (69)

  Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the merchants and their customers. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the stalls of those selling doves,  and he stopped everyone from bringing in merchandise.  

  As we are often reminded, it's not money that is the root of all evil; it's the love of money that is the root problem of all evil. Money is neutral. It is amoral. However, it can be used for moral or immoral purposes. From the time the Church was first established, money and possessions have been a problem. From when Ananias and Sapphira first tried to embezzle money from the Church (Acts 5), there have been constant reports of money being misused and abused for less than honourable goals.

  These are days when worship at the Temple of "The Mighty Dollar God" is widespread. Our nation of Australia is very blessed economically and the richer we become as a nation, the more we want and expect. The same seems to be true in everyday households. The more we have, the more we want.  Yet "enough" seems to always be just a little bit more.

  Jesus had quite a bit to say about money. Most of it disturbing. More about this issue tomorrow.
