  • Today's "Moment With Mark" (20) - Whose Plan?

    2 December, 2012

"Everyone is asking for you."But he replied, "We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too, because that is why I came."  So he traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and expelling demons from many people. (Mark 1:37-39 NLT)

If we don't know what we are doing and why we are doing it, it is very easy for us to allow other people to set the agenda for us. They may be well-meaning or they may be control freaks - or both!! There is a saying that has been around for a while now: "God loves you and everyone else has a wonderful plan for your life"! Maybe you know what that feels like? Everyone else seems to know what you ought to do, how you should do it and when it should be done.

You now feel the pressure of obligation to them. I think the disciples were responding to the needs of many, many people by urging Jesus to do what they thought was needed. Jesus response sounds something like this: I know where I must go and I know what I must do because, first and foremost, I know why I have come". That clarity and certainty enables Him to move and minister with assurance and power.
