I started these log entries because my visits to my friend, The Psalmist, who lives at Psalm 42 & 43, were proving to be so helpful on the subject of discouragement and depression.
My last visit to him yesterday was just as helpful. My last 3 log entries record the importance of the 'big picture' - the past, the present and now the future. To really address the issue of depression I have to deal with it in all three realms.
In the light of the past and the present, the Psalmist now looks to the future and he makes a strong faith commitment.
"I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again - my Saviour and my God!" (42/5, 11, 43/5)
He seems to me to be saying that this season of discouragement or depression will pass in due course and he will once again find his heart filled with praise. He prays that the Lord will send out His light and His truth so that his heart's desire will finally be realised.
"Send out your light and your truth, let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. There I will go to the altar of God, to God - the source of all my joy" (43/3,4)
What is his hearts desire?
"As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the Living God. When can I go and stand before Him" (421,2).
What a great example! My heart is encouraged! I am so glad that I have taken time to make these visits to my friend, the Psalmist. I know I will probably have occasion to visit him again but for now I am encouraged.
