Hello again, sweetheart,
I look so forward to writing these letters to you. I think it must go back to our courtship days when it was the main mode of communication because we spent most of our 4 year courtship apart. If it does nothing else, it gives me the opportunity to process some of the grief that is still very much a powerful emotion and, I’m told, will take a long time to heal.
In my last letter I mentioned the fact that I was preparing a family Christmas card and that task, in turn, was generating questions….new questions that I’ve never asked before. The example I gave was whether or not Christmas was celebrated in heaven?
Well, according to Luke in his gospel, the Heavenly Host broke through to our earthly situation in that first Christmas. The magnitude of such an event and the accompanying praise and worship must have been incomprehensible.
I suppose these kind of questions are pointless and the pursuit of answers will be, in the final outcome, a waste of time. I just wonder about them sometimes. Such thinking does not (indeed, cannot) take into account the limitations that accompany the human condition. We are probably incapable of understanding the answers even if they were available to us.
What I'm trying to say is that it is inevitable that we think of heavenly realities in earthly terms. We have no other frame or reference.
Anyway, back to another question….
Assuming that heaven does celebrate the Incarnation, does it last for a few days or is it always on the go 24/7. Is there such a thing as 24/7 in heaven?
(There it is again! A heavenly question but framed in human terms). If not, what is the point of anniversaries – those annual activities that serve as a reminder that time is passing?
If time doesn’t exist as we know it here, how are we to perceive what it will be like then?
The more questions we ask, the more questions there are to be answered.
Anyway there will, no doubt, be many more as the days pass and we are taken further into the purposes of the Lord God.
I’m sorry my love for wasting valuable writing/reading time. There are more important matters to share than unanswerable questions.
