  • Listen To His Heart

    8 November, 2013

Have you ever done something spontaneously...impulsively...that just "isn't you"? Last Sunday in our morning service I did just that. Our Pastor had poured out his heart as he appealed for us to be a people who encouraged one another.

What he shared really hooked into me and I was ready to bust with excitement and appreciation for the way he brought this truth home to us. But we all sat there like blocks of stone, seemingly without response of any kind (outwardly, at least).

Rather than bust (!), I put my hand up at the end of his sermon and he kindly acknowledged this impulsive act. I jumped to my feet and said, "Are people allowed to call out 'Amen' in this church?" A ripple of laughter followed my question.

I then had the temerity to say how much I appreciated I and agreed with what our Pastor had said and the vulnerability he displayed as he opened his heart to us. I think that I have been part of our Church long enough (including preaching occasionally) for my "un-me" conduct to be seen in that context.

What I didn't say in so many words was to appeal to the congregation, "Listen to this man's heart!!" That would be my appeal to you also. Listen for the heartbeat of your Pastor. Don't be distracted by other things. Listen to his heart.

    It's a thought
