  • Our Journey Through The Valley (81)

    6 April, 2014

I need to apologize to those who depend upon this link in "Barney" to stay in touch with the general  direction and progress of our journey. It has been some time since I have I wrote my last entry and for that I offer my apologies.

As I drove to Church this morning I wondered how I should answer the question, "How's Bev?"  I want to honour the genuineness of the question and something as simple as "OK" won't cut it. Even so, it is a hard question to answer because there are various levels that might be address. Quietly into my spirit came the words of the Apostle Paul recorded in 2 Corinthians 4/16, "That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day".

That pretty much sums up what I observe every day. I said to Bev recently "Sweetheart, you are my hero!" I continue to be amazed, inspired and blessed by her positive attitude and perspective on what is now her way of life. Sure, she has those times of struggle - few as they are - but mostly she is inspirational to those who have contact with her.

It is now two weeks since Bev was admitted into high care. She has settled in better than might reasonably  be expected. The great blessing in all of this is that we are only 200 metres from each other. I continue to live in the self care unit that has been our home for the past 7 years. The Nursing Home (which is part of our Retirement Village) is just up the hill. So we still can see a lot of each other day-by-day.

For those of you who pray for us, could I offer three words that might guide you in how you pray for us? The words are "acknowledgement", "acceptance" and "adjustment". I don't feel the need to explain how each of those words fir our situation.

Thank you for standing (kneeling ?) with us as the journey continues.
