  • Today's "Moment With Mark" (18) - Time Out!

    30 November, 2012

That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.  The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. (Mark 1:32-34)

When we ask people how are they, the answer in many cases is, "Busy!"  We are a very active society and life seems to rush at us and past us before we know it.

Please don't think that Jesus doesn't understand this.

It had been a very busy Sabbath day for the Master....and it hadn't finished yet.  As soon as the sun went down and the Sabbath was officially over, the people came out of the woodwork! They had family members, neighbours, work colleagues and who-knows how many others that needed to be brought to Jesus.

While Jesus turned no one away, He wasn't totally accessible all the time, either. Those of us engaged in the people-helping field need to follow the example of Jesus. When He needed time out, He took time out. For us to refuse to take time out for personal recreation is the ultimate expression of the "Messiah Complex" - except even the Messiah took time for renewal.
