Today's "Moment With Mark" (37) - An Angry God
19 December, 2012
"He looked around at them angrily, because he was deeply disturbed by their hard hearts". (Mark 3:5)
Prof. Bertrand Russell was, for many years, a name synonymous with atheism. One of his arguments for his position was this passage of Scripture. His claim was this; being angry is a sin. Jesus got angry, therefore Jesus was not sinless.
I find it fascinating when I think of those 2 or 3 occasions recorded in Scripture where Jesus is said to be angry. The focus of His anger here is the hardness of heart exhibited by the Pharisees. On another occasion, He was angry with His disciples for keeping the children from Him. Jesus was never soft when it came to sin. But He was never stronger against sin when it disguised itself as religion and resisted people coming to God.
Prof. Russell, sometimes the sin is NOT to get angry!! To be confronted with injustice and to do nothing is to condone that expression of injustice.
So, what am I doing about the injustice that is all around us?
