Today's "Moment with Mark" (65)
25 January, 2013
"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked. (Mark 10:51 NLT)
Without wanting to sound blasphemous, I think people, on hearing this question, could be forgiven for likening Jesus to a Jennie in a bottle, willing to grant one wish. In some ways, the question has a ring about it of "too-good-to-be-true"! Yet sometimes prayer is just that simple. (Of course, at other times it seems frustratingly complex).
Part of me wants to ask, "Why did Jesus have to ask that question? Isn't the answer glaringly obvious? The guy is blind! What do you think his answer will be given his circumstances?" Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions.
What if you were present that day and Bartimaeus answered Jesus like this: "Master, I need a new begging bowl. My outer garment is in a state of disrepair. I'd like something done about the local kids who are giving me a hard time. Anything you can do to ease the frustration of my dilemma would be appreciated."
So the answer may not be as 'cut-and-dried' as first thought. Bartimaeus, of course, went straight for the big deal. "Teacher, I want to see"!!
If somehow Jesus came along side you during the course of this day and you heard Him say to you, "What do you want me to do for you?"
What would you say?
