• Today's "Moment with Mark" (82)

  Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them.  The leading priests were delighted when they heard why he had come, and they promised him a reward. So he began looking for the right time and place to betray Jesus. (Mark 14:10-11 NLT)

  So, the heart of Judas is exposed. The man who led the criticism of Mary under the guise of wanting to help the poor, now shows what are his real concerns. They are to do whatever it takes to get as much as he can at the expense of others. If that means betraying his Master for a reward, so be it. So, when Judas turned up to make a deal, they were excited. Who better to employ in the world of kidnapping and intrigue than one of His own disciples. The money must have been good - 30 pieces of silver.

  You and I know the weak link in Judas' life. The Bible, in its candour, shows us repeatedly that Judas was most vulnerable when he was around money. Like the alcoholic at the Casino or the gambler at the local club's pokies. The presence of that weakness has been building for a long time. The devil cultivates it until he needs it. He has been working on Judas, grooming him for this mission. Now Judas is ready. Now the trap is sprung.

  I rather think that there are within all of us areas of weakness and vulnerability. Our enemy is smart enough to know what they are and how to exploit them at the right time. Until that moment, we manage to rationalise their presence and practice in our lives.

  The truth is this; we are being set-up for a conspiracy that has been in the shadows for a long time. If this is the case, then it's time for us to come out of the shadows, declare our vulnerability, seek support and render my part in the conspiracy null and void.
