  • Our Journey Through The Valley (74)

    26 February, 2014

The more I reflect on this warning to Peter, the more encouraged I become. In explaining to Peter what was really happening, Jesus indicated that He had prayed for Peter. The past tense could mean that He is not currently doing so. Why might that be? Could it be that Jesus no longer prayed because He had already secured the answer that He sought?

Martha had such an insight when, at the graveside of her brother, Lazarus, she said to Jesus,

"Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask." (John 11:21-22)

In the same setting Jesus expressed His confidence that God always hears His prayers.

"Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, "Father, thank you for hearing me.  42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so they will believe you sent me". (John 11:41-42)

However, regardless of how one explains it, this encounter with Jesus and the insight into the true nature of what was about to happen has surely impacted me positively.
